Shaw Cable config

I am having trouble configuring my shaw cable internet connection for slackware. This is what I have so far:

etc/HOSTNAME
(client id).shawcable.net

etc/hosts
# For Loopbacking
127.0.0.1 . localhost
127.0.0.1 . (clientid) shawcable.net (clientid)
# End of hosts.

etc/resolv.conf
search shawcable.net

Thank-you for your advice.

Have you run netconfig to setup your network? What kind of NIC? Or are you connecting thru usb or something else besides NIC? Thru a router or straight connection? If directly connected from cable modem, I assume your ISP issues DHCP IP addresses instead of static, so you will need dhcpd installed and being used, etc? Usually netconfig will probe your nic if using one and prompt you for your network connection settings, etc.
