How to share files and applications between computers in the same network?

What kind of computers ?

Unix only ?
Then use NFS.

Windos ?
Use Samba.

NFS

Both computers run rdhat6.1. I also am trying NFS but kept getting the error when I used the command "$ mount servername:home /mnt/local" :

$mount: RPC: unregistered program

Did you read the NFS-HOWTO ??

Try a rpcinfo -p and tell us the output.
