sharing files
hello everyone,
i am sharing internet connection in my local network using NT server , but i installed Red hat 8 and i am trying to use it to share internet connection instead of the NT server. in my LAN i have Mandrake and windows, sharing files between Red Hat ( the server) and Mandrake is working almost fine. but the problem is with windows box because i can't browse the other windows shared folders and they don't show the other windows computer in windwos neighbourhood. so i have some questions : 1)- how could i share files between windows box while i am using Red Hat as a server 2)- is it possible allow direct connection of instant messenger ( yahoo, msn messenger ..) realplayer.... without any firewall setting. i read some where that there are an iptable script for that but i can't find it again :( thank you Ridha |
I think...
1)- You have Samba set to be a Domain Controller and it is fighting with the NT box. You can have only 1 active PDC in a network segment, and usually only 1 Browse Master, which holds the sharing information, the "Network Neighborhood" records. 2)-The RH server will need to have a direct connection to the Internet, otherwise it will route through the NT box, giving you nothing. Then, set the workstations to use this as a "Gateway". It is possible to have direct connections outward without a firewall, but that also means an open path back in... Have a read of this tutorial for MASQUERADE, conntrack and 'state' considerations. Then a rule generator eg Firestarter to make life easier. et, Bon Chance... :D |
