Shared internet via XP

hi

i have my internet connection on a windows XP machine and id like to connect to it with my slackware box...

but i have no idea where to even start, please put as much detail in your response as possible.

my servers ip is 192.168.0.1 , ive tried to use a proxy on my server and then configing it into konquerer , but no luck. I was told all i needed to do was set the server ip as the gateway.

thanks in adv.

Use the netconfig tool to set up your networking in Slackware.
Are you able to ping each computer from the other?

Turn on ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) on your WindowsXP connection. It should be done by going into the properties of your connection in XP. Make sure you turn off all the authentification while your in there. XP doesn't like linux.

restart your computer and turn the internet connection back on.

Then run "dhcpcd" as root on your slackware box (you may have to install it from the Slackware disc).

If you can then connect to the internet, run "netconfig" and choose DHCP, and the dhcp daemon will run at startup.
