Setting up to connect to two networks with one card
So maybe my network is a little more compliated than it should be, but I just love configuring all these little extras. Right now I have one big network with every PC connecting from a hub. I have a hub with DCHP that asings IPs, The usual. Well now I have a server set up with 4 computers. I need these machines to have static IPs, but still be able to connect to the larger network and acess the outside. So what I have done on my SuSE machines (3 of them) is set up two connections using eth0, one with a static IP ranging from 192.168.1.105-108. The other connection is assigned by the DCHP service on my router. Works perfectly, the machines have a staic IP behind the router, but can also have internet acess. Now I would like to do the same thing with my RedHat system, but I cant find where to do it. I went into network config and added another entry under the 'Devices' tab that said to connect with a static IP, but when I reboot I am able to acess only my network and not the outside (but I have the static IP). Then if I disable that and start the original connection, I can get to the net but I dont have my static IP. I'd like to know how I can have two devices both running on eth0.
Also: what would be involved in using the RH9 system as a DNS server for the other SuSE pcs? Do I just enter thier hostnames and IPs in the 'Hosts' tab. Then on the SuSE machines: set the DNS server to my RH9 machine's IP?
Yes, I searched with a few different keywords. No result.
Thank you,
