Setting up SOHO LAN

I am trying to get prepared to make the switch between dial up and high speed.
I live in a remote area and I am finally getting high speed in my area.

I am looking to set up a small home office lan for work and for play.

I would like to connect:
2 Desktop computers - 1 Gentoo 2005.0 64 and 1 Gentoo x386.
1 Laptop running Ubuntu.
2 Xboxes. 1 chipped with Gentoox, the other standard xbox.
1 PS2
1 Tivo.

I have run or am in the process of running a total of 8 Cat5e lines through the house. I have a ll the lines running to the basement. (probably where FIOS will come in)

I am looking at possibly using Smoothwall as my firewall on an old P2 box.
I would like to set up a red, green orange network. I would like the Xbox's,PS2, and Tivo to reside in the DMZ. I guess my Desktops and laptop would go on the green network.

I am just looking to get this set up before I get on via high speed. At 28.8 I was never really worried about any of boxes being a target since they were never on the internet for a very long time at once. But, with high speed I worry having my boxes out there 24/7 without the right protection will = my boxes getting owned. I would like to incorporate Snort,Squid and dansguardian into my firewall box.

I am looking for any tutorials that will aid me in the setup of this LAN.Any advice or anything I might have missed or not considered.

I apologize for the long post, but I am trying to include all relevant info I can think of.

Thanks,
Blair
