Setting up remote Xsession

Hi,

I cannot figure out why none of the remote applications are showing up on my mandrake box. I have added the host using xhost on my local machine, I have set the display enviornment on the remote machine......i guess thats all right!? And now when I try opening up any application like a file in emacs from the remote host, I can see the program running but nothing happening on my local machine.

I am running behind a router (which I believe has a firewall) I have fiddled around with it but to no avail. Is there anything specific I need to do wiht it? Also is there a way I can pinpoint if its a router problem or is there anything wrong with setting up any of the envionment......something of a network monitoring tool or something similar. I am running Mandrake 8.1 and I am connecting to remote machine in school running Solaris 8

Thanks for your help

I am sorry, I must have missed you. I went to the linux documentation page on howto, but couldn't find what I was looking for. One thing I might add is that Linksys says that I have to turn off the DHCP server within the router to use all that port forwarding features within it. But as far as I know there has to be a DHCP server running somewhere within the network. How can I set one up? I have only one ethernet card, so I cannot make my computer as a router? My roommate uses Windows 95, would that be a problem in any sense while I am setting up this DHCP thing?

Sometimes, I do that too [out of habit :-) ] - is there a way I can set up the DHCP so that it would work right for both Linux and Windows. Thanks a lot for your help.

Hi,

Sorry to bother you guys with this message again. But I haven't had any luck setting up an X Session. Any good resource or help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
