Setting up an https or other kind of proxy for external computers
Hello everyone, I'm a semi-competent desktop linux user. I have no fear of editing text files in vi or fear of compiling programs and minor troubleshooting. However, I face a problem that I have no experience in dealing with and I would like some help.
I would like to set up a proxy server that would encrypt everything, url's and data so that I could access certain websites outside of an overly restrictive firewall. I have a computer I can use as a proxy running ubuntu linux and a dsl line. If possible I would like to restrict access to a few computers by either identifying by ip address or by setting up a password protected system (the latter being preferrable).
I'd essentially like to set up a proxy similar to the kind one sees when one searches for "free proxies" over the internet. Does anyone have any guides or ideas over how to set one up? Thank you very much,
lurker
