Setting up a home network in Ubuntu 8.10. So that I can share files with Windows.

Can anybody show me how to do this? I can see files in Ubuntu while in Vista but not the other way around. I have tried everything. Any help would be appreciated.

Is your Vista firewall set to allow export of filesystems? Can you see the files from any other computer?

This link may be of help http://thinkabdul.com/2007/03/11/tip...os-x-or-linux/

Have you looked at the configuration files yet?
Are you planning on using Active directory?
The easiest way to set it up is to install samba-swat.
Take a look at the samba website for configuration examples and write me back.

Good Luck and Happy New Year

Your post is incredibly skimpy on details such as: What hardware are you using to connect your network? Can all PC’s in your network ping all other PC’s?

I wrote a detailed procedure to network using Samba in Ubuntu to Windows 98. Here’s my post:
Setup a Peer to Peer Home Network with Point & Click

Have a look at it, try some things on your network and post back here with your findings.
