Hello all!
I am tring to set up an internet gateway for my home network
which consists of 2 windows computers, and 2 linux ones.
The gateway machine has no hardware problems,
But I am having a little trouble sorting it out.
The Gateway machine will contain everyone's "My Documents" folder
and each respective one will be accessed over the network.
This machine will serve the internet on the network, and will also
have a printer attached to it.
...Fairly Basic Stuff.
Ideally I would have everyone come through SMB to the gateway.
I need to know how and what network services to set up, of this list:
Routing
DNS Serving
DHCP Serving.
Please tell me the kind of thing I need to do,
particularily to share the internet connection.
For DNS, you can use BIND.
This is more complex to setup and for a home network, you may be better off configuration your DHCP server to use your ISP's DNS servers.
Yeah, BIND would be overkill for just the 4 machines.
You will need Samba to have the Windows users be able to share files with the Linux machine. You might already know that, but since you didn't mention it, I thought I would bring it up.
