Setting up a DSL connection using a usb modem

Right now I am sharing my internet connection from a windows XP machine, which is connected via a usb broadband modem. I want to be able to connect directly to the internet with my linux machine, but do not think I'll be able to install the modem with the CD that my isp gave me (I think it's only for windows). I tried connecting the modem anyway, but it was not detected.

Is there a way that I can do this?

Don't bump your threads like this (and anyway, if there isn't a reply within 24 hours or so, threads automatically get bumped twice). What kind of modem is it?

Sorry, thanks for the info. I'm not too sure what you mean by what kind of modem, in the device manager (winXP) it says "SpeedTouch USB ADSL PPP".

Are you still using Fedora? The link on the left hand side of this page for Fedora may help.

If your kernel version is < 2.6.10 (check using "uname -r"), then take a look at this. There will have been threads about these modems on LQ before, so also do a search if you run into problems.
