Setting up a DNS server

Hi guys,

I am pretty new to linux and I need to setup my own DNS server so it caches all the requests locally. Can anyone help?

Regards,

type this in concole (or terminal)

rpm -qa | grep bind
rpm -qa | grep caching-nameserver

these commands check if bind and caching-nameserver packets installed.
if u can see "caching-nameserver-x.x-x" and "bind-x.x.x-x".. its ok. if u cant see these packets intall them.. and start service. and enable this service for runlevel 35.. type this commands to do that

/etc/rc.d/init.d/named start
chkconfig --level 35 named on

check your "/etc/resolve.conf" file if "nameserver 127.0.0.1" exist.

now it s ready to use for local caching-name server

Just to be clear, all you need to do is run bind, use the machine running bind as your nameserver (even if all it does is forward requests), and it'll automatically cache requests for you.
