setting speed of a nic

Hi there,
I have a cable, which only supports 10MBit and an IBM Thinkpad with Suse 9.1.
Now I would like to know, how to configure the NIC to that speed.
Thanks for Your help
Hanns

Welcome to LQ.

You can use mii-tool:
mii-tool -F 10baseT-HD

If you want full duplex then:
mii-tool -F 10baseT-FD

You will need to run mii-tool as root.
