Setting Samba up->

We have a Windows NT domain and I want to be able to set up Samba so that when they log into the share folder they can use there windows names and passwords.

What is the best way to accomplish this?

Do I need security = domain ?

Any help would be great - thanks!

I guess you aren't looking to replace the NT domain controller with a Samba machine?

If you want to use the Samba machine as just a file server on the domain, then you would need to use domain security, yes. You will also need to tell it the name of the domain, and which servers to query for authentication information.

This has some information on a basic setup. It is pretty outdated, but then, I guess any NT domain information is probably going to be pretty old at this point.

Thanks I will take a look.

We have a Samba server set up already and I just want to add a folder to it to share.

I will take a look at the article and see if I can get it to work.

I tried to set up a Samba share however on my Windows machine it would not let me in, so I have to play around some with it.

Alright I set up the smb.conf file and for some reason it will not let me on the share. It tells me \\(server) is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this resource.

It seems that it is not authenticating correctly. I put in the name of the password server correctly.

To add:

At the command prompt I do a smbclient -L (server) -U (user)

I put in the password and get:

Domain=[BLU] OS=[Unix] Server=[Samba 3.0.10-1.4E.9]

Sharename Type Comment
--------- ---- -------
tmp Disk Temporary file space
IPC$ IPC IPC Service (Samba Server BSS)
ADMIN$ IPC IPC Service (Samba Server BSS)
HP Printer Created by redhat-config-printer 0.6.x
username Disk Home Directories
Domain=[BLU] OS=[Unix] Server=[Samba 3.0.10-1.4E.9]

Server Comment

Linux Samba Server

Workgroup Master

Their is no master - how can I set the master on it? I know what I want it to be.

So it shows the server and the shares etc.. however if I go to network neighborhood on a Windows Machine it will still not let me in.

Alright I now got it to recognize the master server - however it still does not let me in to browse. Anything I can look at to see why it will not let me browse?

sharptech 02-15-2007 03:05 PM

Things seem to have gotten worse.

Now when I try to browse the network I only get my machine and none others.

Also the master server is switched to something different - and does not look to be the correct one - does this affect browsing?

Help needed.. thanks.
