Setting BIND/Sendmail behind a broadband router/firewall

Having sorted Samba I think I'm going to try my luck at moving our mail server over from NT4.0 to Linux. This is the scenario:

A Local Area Network with a Samba Server (PDC) on rh7.3 and one NT4.0 (Member Server) server running VPOP3. Win2000/XP clients. All behind an Allied Telesyn broadband router/Firewall.

At the moment the VPOP3 mail server on the NT4.0 box periodically dials out through the router to collect. My plan is to scrap the NT4.0 and move that server over to Linux too. If I do this and get sendmail running then (correct me if I'm wrong) I'm going to need to run a basic name caching server on the Linux box as I'm going to point the Sendmail server to smtp.isp.co.uk and pop3.isp.co.uk to send and receive mail. I think I'm right! Am I? Or am I barking up the wrong tree?

Thank you for any help in advance

Hi there,

If you want, you could run a full blown DNS server on the linux box, along with sendmail. Just install BIND(get from www.isc.org), then install and configure it. Tough if you've never done it before, but you should be able to get a book and do it with relative ease. Then, it'll all be self-contained and you won't have to point sendmail anywhere else.
