Set up laptop as network gateway for HTC Hero

Hi.

I've just bought myself a HTC Hero mobile phone, and would like to access the internet through my laptop (it's cheapter this way rather than use 3G). Have anyone done similar things, and could point me to some documentation on how to set this up? I'm running Ubuntu Jaunty.

I finally did some testing, and found this:

Error for wireless request "Set Mode" (8B06) :
    SET failed on device eth1 ; Invalid argument.

May it be that my wireless card doesn't support being a wireless access point?
