Server Red Hat and error message Destination Host Unreachable
The Linux server Red Hat that I have got is giving me this error :
((Destination Host Unreachable.....))
Its NIC is up, and IP, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway is fine, the Cisco switch where it connected is configured correctly, but neither any one can ping this Red Hat Server nor it can ping any one on the same network.
I even added the default router under the properties of NIC on Red
Hat Server....it didn't make any difference.
1- Beside the firewall (enabling and disabling) that I have to check
2- Can I uninstall TCP/IP and reinstall it again (If that feasible like windows)?
Can you ping the router from the RH server? If not the issue is most likely:
Defective NIC
Bad cable
Inactive port on the router.
Have you checked for link light on the NIC itself?
Have you checked the router to see if it shows an active connection?
You can "stop" and "start" networking:
"service network restart"
You should not have to "reload" any packages for that assuming your NIC is configuring properly.
"ping router" was a poor choice of words. I meant can you ping whatever you configured as the "gateway"?
Note that some NICs have more than one light - one is just to tell you the NIC is operational - the other is the link light. To verify what you're looking at is the link light you should disconnect the cable. If the light stays on it is not the link light.

With Cisco switch this light moves from Amber color to green color , that menas the NIC and cable are operational, otherwise it will saty as amber color.
If I unplugged the server and plugged my laptop instead, they can ping each other (switch and other PCs and laptop)
