i have a problem in configuring L2 manageable switch through console port with linux PC.. can anyone help me out in configuring the serial port of the liunx PC.

It would help if you were more specific. Give details - what are you trying to do and with what and how are you attempting to do the configuration.

I'm also not clear as to why you expect the switch to require a serial port.

... which you won't share. That's all right, lots of folk like to manage their networks via RS232 connections.

So - you want to use the linux terminal to configure the switch by connecting a serial port (linux end) to the console port (switch end) ... and you have the right cable?

You don't need to configure the serial port for this.

So what is the problem again?
(What HW are you using - like the brand of the switch? What have you tried to do so far to get the thing configured? What did you expect to happen and why didn't it work? And how do you expect anything useful if you hang on to information like this?)

setserial is a console utility to configure a serial port.

minicom is a console terminal application.

gcomm is a GUI terminal application. I do not have any actual experience using this application.
