switch has a console port..
linuxPC has a serial port..
... usually the case yes
we are trying to configure the switch through serial interface instead of ethernet.(for various reasons)
... which you won't share. That's all right, lots of folk like to manage their networks via RS232 connections.
So - you want to use the linux terminal to configure the switch by connecting a serial port (linux end) to the console port (switch end) ... and you have the right cable?
You don't need to configure the serial port for this.
So what is the problem again?
(What HW are you using - like the brand of the switch? What have you tried to do so far to get the thing configured? What did you expect to happen and why didn't it work? And how do you expect anything useful if you hang on to information like this?)
