sendmail stat=Deferred error

There's this one host that I can't seem to send mail to. Any mail I send generates a stat=Deferred Connection reset by recipient's mail relay.

I'm using Sendmail 8.12

Have a look in /var/log/maillog to see why the mail couldn't be delivered. That will give you a clue what's wrong.

Jul 16 14:39:17 mail sendmail[3438]: h6BIv57j028557: to=<hostmaster@verio-hosting.com>, ctladdr=<gideon@wilmedia.com> (500/100), delay=4+23:42:11, xdelay=00:00:01, mailer=esmtp, pri=10830405, relay=mail-fwd.rapidsite.net. [208.55.43.125], dsn=4.0.0, stat=Deferred: Connection reset by mail-fwd.rapidsite.net.

Is the log message I have for these messages.

That looks like you get turned down trying a "third-party" relay... you are apparently (from what I can see) gideon@wilmedia.com (146.145.240.92), you want to send TO hostmaster@verio-hosting.com (209.238.107.102) but you are using a relay at 208.55.43.125. Usually the sysops disallow such a thing - you invite spam.

I don't see which mailer you use. If it's like netscape or so, just start sendmail on your machine w/o any relay (so it acts as its own mail relay), and specify "sendmail" as the mail protocol.

Where did that mail relay come from in the first place?

I don't quite get what's going on then. 208.55.43.125 is mail-fwd.rapidsite.net, which is part of verio, whom i'm trying to send mail to. But if I do an MX lookup on verio-hosting.com, this is precisely their primary MX server.
