Ok. Im setting a linux box (RH6.1) to be my internet mail server. i already installed DNS to point mail to my server. I installed imap and set up the pop3 service. This is my case:

1. Users from the linux box can send mail to each other, can send mail to the internet and receive mail from the internet.

2. A user using outlook can pop mail from the inbox in the linux machine. Can send mail to a user on the linux machine, but CAN NOT send mail to the internet.

After lots of reading (Outdated and cryptic HOWTO'S and FAQ's) i figured out it was a security problem. in /var/log/maillog it register a no relay record when the outlook client try to send mail through the linux box.

Q: How i can set up sendmail to let computers on my private network 192.168.x.x send mail to the internet.

i read that there's a file calles /etc/mail/relay-domains but i don't know what should i place there. And another called /etc/mail/access which .. well im not sure what should i do.

Any suggestions !

It depends on what version of sendmail you are running. If you have not upgraded it from the stock red hat install this should help - http://www.sendmail.org/tips/relaying.html. If you have any other questions let us know.

Ok. Thanx .. I finally got it. I still don't undersand sendmail configuration .. is far too complex. Fortunally, LinuxConf did the job. i discovered that my problem have to do with the anti-spam configuration. In that section there was a way to tell Linuxconf to build rules to let my ip netowork be relayed... thanx for yo answer.
