Sendmail from User to Root. Not working

Hey guys,

Well im in a class here, and we have to run Fedora Core 4 on vmware but aside from that depressing little tidbit. I am having problems using sendmail to..well... send mail, from a user to root.

In the /var/log/maillog.4 this line is exactly what is popping up constantly. (Disregard the dates and times)

Aug 3 11:46:02 FC413062006 sendmail[3314]: k73Hk2J9003314: to=root, ctladdr=root (0/0), delay=00:00:00, xdelay=00:00:00, mailer=relay, pri=30706, relay=[127.0.0.1] [127.0.0.1], dsn=4.0.0, stat=Deferred: Connection refused by [127.0.0.1]

This comes up every time, and I cant seem to figure it out.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Looks like your Sendmail server is not allowing connections via the loopback interface. Can you telnet to localhost on port 25?

The email isnt leaving the local system, so shouldnt it not be using a port then?

You would still need to establish a connection with your MTA to send the message. Do you have IPTables enabled? Are you blocking traffic from the localhost address?

I just checked my iptables, and there is nothing being blocked, or allowed.

Are connections implicilty denied if there is nothing in the table?

I do have the line in sendmail.mc

DAEMON_OPTIONS('Port=smtp,Addr=127.0.0.1, name=MTA')

This should allow it to listen on localhost as the comments say.
