sending at commands over pppoe?

I'm using fedora core 4, have a ethernet modem. I ran adsl-setup and modem connects pppoe fine but I want to know is it possible/how to send hayes modem AT commands before/during PPPoE establishes? Do i do it in some custom chat script? at the moment this is what comes up in "ps aux | grep pppd"

So why do you need to send AT commands to an ethernet modem? I could be mistaken but I doubt the modem will recognize an AT command.

im not an expert in hardware stuff..but i know u can send at commands to a serial modem..like hayes at commands. I have a ipwireless modem, i know there is a usb driver for it but i just wanna know if it is possible to send a AT command string over ethernet. With the AT command I will be able to retrieve modem RF signal conditions, battery level..etc..would appreciate if someone would point me to the right direction...

Here are some wireless tools that I think is what you are asking about.
See man pages for iwconfig, iwspy, iwlist, iwpriv.
