Script or command to monitor a remote machine

Can I use a shell script or commands in order to keep eyes on a remote computer? I heard that one can use "wget --spider" or "curl -I", but I don't know how to use it.

I want something like this:

<command> <remote user>@<remote machine name/IP>

Please let me know if such exists.

Thanks in advance.

It depends on what you want to keep your eyes on?
Is it the health of the machine, load on network or other resources, output from a program or what? (Or just spy on a competing company..? ;-)
