Script for automatic network setup

I was wondering if anyone has a script that could be used for automatic network configuration. Something like, say:
1) tries wireless networks from a preferred networks list
2) tries to connect to open access points
3) tries to connect theu eth0

It would be nice if this script would know that, for some reason, the wireless network or the wired nw is down and then it would relaunch itself.

Does anyone know how to do this? Thanks in advance for any help.

maybe this:

That is exactly what I am looking for but this one is a debian package and my laptop is gentoo. Can I use it though? And if possible, how? That's why I was looking for a script kinda-thing, to avoid distro problems. Thank you for the suggestion!

Well either you find a specific for gentoo (hum a source then) or take the original one:

http://http.us.debian.org/pool/main/...26.orig.tar.gz

Ok I am trying it now. Hope it works! Adding few libs required to compile it and will do it. Just as a reference, the correct link to the source is:
http://http.us.debian.org/debian/poo...26.orig.tar.gz

Thanks!

Many compile errors... I am trying to sort them out but I dont have much time for this. I just wanted something already working... let's see what I will be able to do. Can you compile from the source in your system?
