I know this type of question has been asked a million times before but I need a few more specific hints and tips
I recently had an LDAP breakdown which killed my primary way of auth in samba and to cut a long story short i reinstalled samba (v3.0.2a)
I have a perfectly working samba install (as far as I can tell) running as a PDC with a variety of machines connected to it (Win XP, 2k, Me, 98, even an X-Box!)
Everything works with the exception of 1 XP machine. Nothing I can do will make it join the domain. I am using a script to add the machine accounts but I even tried manually creating them for this machine with no joy.
The error is the same each time, that it can't connect becase there is an existing connection. I have seen this many times, mostly when you forget to delete connections (ie net use * /delete) but I have done this and checked and re-checked.
The real question is whether anyone can give me some clues as to what to look for in the log file, if there is a better log leve to use that 3 (the one i currently use) or whether there are any XP based tricks I should try.
I admit I am no XP expert but I have been setting up windows networks since the WfW days and been using Linux just as long. I have a similar setup at home as to here that works and indeed every pc here but this one has connected perfectly.
It is driving me nuts so any suggestions would be appreciated.
A few other things of note
I am using the administrator logon in XP when I try to connect
I have set the machine up in a bogus workgroup to make sure there is no clashes etc.
I have created the machine trust account manually (the error occurs before samba gets to the script so it never runs anyway)
I have followed the exact same process on 3 other XP machines here all of which connected ok.
As i understand it, it is one of those features "watered down" by microsoft to ensure that a business uses PRO. It is among a host of useable features for the home user that were intentionally omitted. Other network features are missing as well, but i cannot remember off-hand what they are.
