Samba without a password?
Hi,
I've got samba successfuly running on my Redhat 8 box and I was wondering if there's a way that I can configure samba so I don't need to enter a username/password when I do \\mysambaserver\ on my windows box. Thanks, Matt :newbie: |
Hey Matt, I was having the same problem (running windows xp pro) trying to access the slackware box... Maybe we should try man samba?
|
I tried the man, but my konsole doesn't work right under VNC. I'm using VNC to access my 'nix server because i've only got two monitors in the house and my sister's using one of them on the families computer :(

Do you have webmin installed?
|
nope
|
You should grab it - it really helps :-)

Hey... I am also trying to figure out how this samba works... Here's my config for public share with read-only permission
NinjaBox:/etc/samba# more smb.conf workgroup = hacktheplanet netbios name = NinjaBox encrypt passwords = yes security = share [Music] path = /server/music browseable = yes guest ok = yes Basically "security = share" is the key here |
