A different ip address compared to looking at it where? Does the share work? Can you ping the ip shown in Smb4k? Does the machine with the share have a hostname? and if so can you ping the host using the hostname? What ip is returned when you ping using the hostname?

static ip i gave the computers on eth interfaces stydeb ip=192.168.1.41 stydendea64 ip=192.168.1.39 stydendea64 2nd ip=192.168.1.40 stydende-pc ip= 192.168.1.43 hpprinter ip=192.168.1.42 suzal ip= 192.168.1.45

ip adresses given in smb4k stydeb 192.168.1.32 stydendea 64 and others are not shown. stydendea64 is the computer in trying to setup as my server and is the computer im useing and setting up samba on.

ping works on all ip addresses i gave them as well as hostnames. when pinging the hostnames i gave it gives back the ip i set to the hostname. didnt try to ping the ip smb4k gave because it wasnt a ip i gave any computer on my network.

this is really confusing me i dunno why its doing this lol but ive been having problems setting up samba for day one. but cud using webmin to config samba be the cause of my problem.

There's always a possibility that webmin may have broken samba. You should have pinged the ip smb4k was showing, to see what is returned. The ip must be coming from somewhere! You haven't said whether the share works or not. You could try Linneighbourhood (that's another lan/share browser) and see what the result is. Check your samba config files and samba logfile you may spot where the error lies.

thnx i think im just goning to delete smb.conf file and start from scratch. it gave me a waring when i created it useing webmin but i ignored it thinking it was nothing so ill just write my own and see if it fixes it when ping 192.168.1.32 comes up with error message as if it doesnt exsist on network witch is right. right now i can ping all my cmputers witch is sumthing i wasnt ale to do b4, so hopefully with new smb.conf file ill beable to set folders to share and which users can acess said folders and so on and so forth. as of right now im gonna edit the subject to this thread as solved thanx for ur help
