samba w/printer & file sharing ?

i heard a lot about samba, i dont have a time read a lot of about it.

i have a suse9.3 and i would like to install our printer so that all 50 users can print, just like in windows. any idea how to this? i'm confused about the user and password, i want our user to print directly without asking for username&password for samba. same in file sharing i want to have 1 folder with different users folder inside where they can put there files and the users can get into that file without asking for password and username..

thanks

Then you'll probably want to use share-level security with no share passwords, but this is a MASSIVELY inscure practice.

install SAMBA and install CUPS. I don't know but there might be some kind of GUI in YAST to configure printers and sharing.

thanks for your quick post Matir ,mrcheeks

about the insecure practice is no problem, because the files will be share by other user also, something like it will serve as a file server.. samthng with the printer security is not a problem.

any idea how to do this please, i never been using a samba before..

thanks

CUPS is the 'defacto' standard printing daemon for linux. Both cups and samba come with their own web-based administration tools that are fairly self-explanatory.
