samba via VPN and XP issues

Greetings,

I did do a search but i couldnt find a definitive answer so here is goes.

I have a user that has XP home (grown :<) and when she connects via a Cisco client to a pix 501 the copying of files from the server (RH 7.3) on mapped shares (samba ver 2.23 I think) becomes very slow. the user connects using DSL to work which is also using DSL. Im not sure if its oplock issue or not because at the office there is no slowness. now i did do the reg hack for the seal but still no impovment. From my machine witch is XP pro i have a similar issue (slow). According to the log it does indicate that oplocks to be the issue. So, does that mean that it could possibly only effect machines that would connect via a vpn? Is there a definitive set of instructions for XP in general? Please advise.

There have been people postng here with issues showing up only one way when copying with NTFS on the client (XP) and samba It's possibly an XP thing or not an all the time issue because I have not noticed problems under NT4. Also, as a troubleshooting step you can upgrade samba to the newer version, I think it's still 2.2.7a because the stuff they have been working on lately includes XP client issues.
