samba - system error 53

can any one help?

i have redhat 7.2 running default version of samba
+win2kpro machine.

both machines can ping each other.

redhat can testparm + smbclient -L + is set up for encrypted passwords.

win2kpro cannot net use or net view redhat.
"system error 53"

i have heard that this may be win2kpro SP2 block samba!!?
i am reluctant to reinstall win2kpro without sp2.

does any one have ideas what this may be?
any ideas will be greatly received.

no it should work fine
check that your ports 137-139 aren't blocked and that your samba is set up well
you can try to reach w2k from linux first. If it works. go on with
nmblookup "*" -T to see if w2k machine is visible on the net. Then make sure you have setup shares on samba

I had the same problem only a few weeks back. Noeer is dead right. Make sure ports 137-139 allow both incoming and outgoing traffic for both TCP and UDP. You will be able to ping from Linux to Windoze and vise-versa as "Ping" uses ICMP which is sits below TCP and UDP in the TCP/IP stack. I found the best way to configure the firewall was by using the "firewall-config" graphical utility in X. Also make sure you configure your shares correctly.
