Samba, Smbpasswd, and Multiple Linux Boxes
First of all, THANK you in advance for your help on this.
I Have Suse 9.1 running on 3 Boxes. I Call them - PDC, BDC, and Member I have Samba 3.04 Set up on all 3 boxes and they're configured just like the names I gave them. Q - Must I replicate my Smbpasswd file to both the BDC and the Member server? Is SMBPASSWD the only file I need to copy ? ---- Also, I have a second drive on the member server. Let's call it /DEV/HDB. Q- If I create a directory on it, is there anything different I need to do in SMB.CONF to define that directory as shared? Mucho appreciados Soopa |
Welcome to LQ.
You may need to copy the unix files /etc/passwd /etc/shadow and /etc/group as well. A much better solution would be to use ldap for both unix and samba authentication. This way data is stored centrally and is much easier to replicate. |
Thanks David. I figured LDAP was the way to do it, but as a Linux newbie I was daunted by the documentation.
