I have a samba server shared folder for my company staff. In the shared folder, there are excel file size about 8MB, i open it but wait a long time about 30s.
I have experienced same situations. When users browsed the shares, there was no or little delay, but when the users opend a doc after a some lan inactivity there was big delay until more than 15sec. The following points could reduce it. In the network properties => tcp/ip => advanced parameters:
- Be sure to add your server adress in the WINS server (and active it in Samba)
- don't check LMHOST if you have not set it up in your server
- check Use NetBios over tcp/ip
Any way try to connect one PC in domain for test purpose.
