Samba "raw" printing problem

I'm trying to set up network printing via a wireless home network and have not been able to solve this final problem. Whenever I send a job to the printer, I get an error "Unsupported format application octet stream".

Setup is as follows:
server-Slackware 9.0 with HP printer on /dev/lp0
laptop - WinXP

Samba running on server.

I can access shares on the server and see the printer. There is a separate printer queue setup as "raw" and that is the queue that has been configured in the Windows printer configuration dialog with the Windows HP drivers.

I have the lines "use client drivers = yes" in smb.conf and both /etc/mime.types and /etc/mime.convs have the "application octet stream" lines uncommented.

When I try to print a test page from XP I get the printer dialog box showing the job spooling and then printing but nothing actually prints. In the cups_errors log file I get the above message along with a comment "Hint, do you have raw printing enabled?"

Any suggestions will be gratefully accepted.

Thanks
Alan

browse to http://localhost:631 and see what cups looks like.
It sounds like samba is happy, but the local print queue is not.

Thanks. I have 2 printers defined in CUPS: my regular HP with hpijs and a new printer that I set up with the driver as "raw" and the printer queue as "raw" . After this setup I restarted CUPS and confirmed that restart in the logs. But when I try to print to the raw printer nothing happens. Before I was getting the error about application octet-stream; now I don't even get that. According to the logs a job is being sent-but nothing prints!!
