Unhappy samba problems accesing openoffice spredsheets


Hi everyone
Im running samba on my linux machine and i need to access a spreadsheet on a windows machine, the spreadsheet is in msoffice and i can access it with openoffice and modify it only problem is it dosent then save the file back to the windows machine I get an error saying smb protocol only partially supported ! dose this meen that i cannot use openoffice on a network or is it a setup problem

If the original file is on NTFS partition then you can't save it because you aren't able to write on NTFS partition. But I'm not sure if the error you get is because of this or not.

Hi flyereddie,

As you are accessing an XP machine via samba, the problem doesn't have anything with the NTFS.
I guess you could have a sharing problem because it seems you have only read access. Did you share the XP with write access or just read?
Did the user has write access to the share?

Hm... I had a small home network and write permissions on the XP PC for everyone but still I couldn't write on NTFS but I could on FAT. It seems I have missed something then.

I have set up sharing on the xp machine i can create files and directories from my linux machine when i open the spread sheet i get a message something like creating local copy , I can then work on the spread sheet but on exiting opeanoffice it dosnt seem to save the changes back to the file on the xp machine ( sorry if this is a bit vague but Im not at work for a week ) thanks again for any help
