Samba printer
Alright, I was trying to get my printer (which is connected to a samba host) to work
I get no errors during the printer setup (command line or the browser) but lpstats gives an error and so does lp filename
lpstat gives:
Printer 'DJ600@localhost' - cannot open connection - No such file or directory
Make sure the remote host supports the LPD protocol
and accepts connections from this host and from non-privileged (>1023) ports
lp filename give:
sending job 'crazedmodder@c/2423dc/23w+487' to DJ600@localhost
connecting to 'localhost', attempt 1
cannot open connection to localhost - No such file or directory
Make sure the remote host supports the LPD protocol
and accepts connections from this host and from non-privileged (>1023) ports
Here's some information on my setup:
I installed it by command line like this:
lpadmin -p dj600 -v smb://Eric Bozikian:qwerty@FAMPC/dj600 \-P /usr/share/cups/model/foomatic-ppds/HP/HP-DeskJet_600-hpijs.ppd.gz
gave me an error about my username so I went to my XP computer (which is hooked up to the printer) and changed my username to Eric:
$ lpadmin -p DJ600 -v smb://Eric:qwerty@FAMPC/dj600 \-P /usr/share/cups/models/foomatic-ppds/HP/HP-DeskJet_600-hpijs.ppd.gz
/usr/bin/enable DJ600
accept DJ600
these return no errors.
My computer is running Slackware 9.1 with the generic kernel, I have cups and rc.cups installed (asked during install), lprng as well as samba and rc.samba
Reatek 8139too (as known by linux)
The computer I'm trying to print to is Windows XP Pro, with a HP Deskjet600 connected through LPT1 (I'm pretty sure)
We have a router in between these two boxes (Linksys BEFSR41)
Thanks
