samba pdc
I managed to get my linux box running as a PDC with samba. I have an XP box and a 2k box, and I've successfully gotten the XP box set up with a trust account on the domain, and I can log in with my old samba account onto the domain with said XP box. Things are looking up, for sure.
I have two issues that I can't seem to hammered out so far, though:
1) I don't want profiles saved on the PDC because I move my computer for LAN parties and stuff a lot. Therefore, I want all the profile information on the local machine and then when I take it to friends' houses, I can simply logon to the local computer instead of the domain and the computer should act just like normal. When I try to logon to the domain, I see an error saying that it was unable to find a profile on the domain or to find a local one. It also says that any changes won't be saved. How can I get it working the way I want?
2) My wife uses the 2k box, which is currently NOT set up with a trust account on the domain. Thus, when she logs on, she only logs onto the local machine. Yet, with her valid username and password, she can still access the same shares she was able to access before samba was running as a PDC. Is there any way to keep people from accessing shares if they don't log onto the domain? I mean, if I have a username/password with permissions to access a share and it works with or without being logged onto the domain, then what's the purpose of the domain?
