Samba Password File

Well, for those of you who have been helping me with my Samba and other network issues, thanks a bunch. I finally got it working to some small degree. I have a new question, though:

How do I determine where the Samba password file is?

I don't have a smb passwd file = option in my smb.conf file. I have the password file working correctly, but I don't know where it is. It doesn't show up on a file search for me. I just want to be sure that it's secure.

Thanks a bunch.

Look in one of these places, then when you find it add the smb passwd file = option to smb.conf in case you forget

/etc/smbpasswd
/etc/samba/smbpasswd
/usr/local/samba/lib/smbpasswd
/usr/local/samba/private/smbpasswd
(if your samba isn't in usr/local, then find it and check for a private or lib subdir)

Can you tell I've had the same problem? Also don't be fooled by symlinks and size 0 files!

Under RedHat 8.0 all the samba files (including the password file) are stored in /etc/samba/.
