Samba only accessible by IP

Hi guys..
Ive got samba up and running ..the only prob is that ..I can only access samba by it's IP \\192.168.1.1 and not by it's hostname \\Debian...what config file should I edit on the debian router to access it using it's name..

usually that's /etc/hosts. Just put in a line 192.168.1.1 Debian Debian.network.name, note you can leave off the fully qualified domain name (Debian.network.name) if you want...

To test it, just type ping Debian and you should get a response (Firewall allowing).

Samba will try to resolve the hostname by using dns, what I think you are missing is the Samba configuration directive

netbios name = Debian

BTW, you probably mean to also use the workgroup directive (if you are accessing from Win$ machines)

workgroup = MYGROUP --
