I have a question about SAMBA, and I am not entirely sure if what I want to be done can be done.
My family and I have taken advantage of Active Directory so we can share our PCs easily with a central location for accounts and authentication. We use Windows Server 2003 to do this and this isn't really negotiable by me because I am the only one who uses Linux. The question is basic: Can I get SAMBA to do its authentication with Active Directory?
I just figured someone here could answer and yes or no question so I'd know if Googleing the SAMBA howtos was a waste of time or not.
I've been using Linux for 9 bloody years now, I don't need documentation even, I just couldn't find it clearly stated on samba.org if they have caught up with ActiveDirectory which is something I know and use as a black box.
I can't help you with the substance, but salasi was not doing anything wrong. If I don't know something, but the question piques my curiousity, I will often do some Googling and then report that the results looked promising.

John.
Definitely this is possible although you have to work really hard to achieve the result. I have setup Windows 2003 Active Directory (With kerberos authentication) samba and squid. (This is in test mode). Now I can control users accessing internet through squid proxy using their login names instead of ipaddress. (Because of centralized authentication, the user can login from any machine in the lan)

Good Luck...!!!
Could you possibly post a any notes you made whilst doing this ??
I've tried googling this exact type of set up but I'm stuck at a certain point.
I can do a kinit username@domain and get a password request. I enter the password, and all suceeds.
When I try to run the "net ads join -S servername.domain.name -U administrator" I get and error saying the kerberos failed to lookup DC for domain whilst trying to obtain credentials, trying to connect via RPC.
