samba is a pain.... HELP

i dont think i have my config file correct, i can map a drive from windows using [map network drive wizard], it will not even prompt for pass (username is different, but pass is same), i was able to connect and browse pc before, then i broke something. (im a newbie, and i like to play )

my real roblem is, if i try to double click on the pc, i get a username/pw, and it will not accept my password.

using the net use \\pcname command in xp i get access denied error 5, running net view i see it from a list of pcs that are available.

can anyone explain to my what i might have done to foobar my system?

here is my smb.conf file created with swat

First, you should have a line in the [gshare] and [mus] shares that says something like read list = <user name> and a write list = <user name>. This set the read and read/write permissions for that share.
Second, you need to make sure that your local file permissions allow that user to access the share.

for me the section added to the [share] section looked something like the following:

valid users = username username2 username3...

however, i didn't even require those lines, but they can be used.

the big thing I think most people miss, and I know I fumbled with for days on end is this..
you MUST have a local linux user (via useradd, userconf, etc.) defined (i.e. can log on locally to that linux workstation), and here is the kicker..
you MUST set up a samba user with exactly the same name (remember case matters in Linux) with the same password.
the command is smbpasswd.

You can issue smbpasswd --help if you need the syntax. Once the user exists in both places I think you should have success. Otherwise, please post the specific error message here.

sound like a firewall issue.
first try to make your nic card trusted, if not low the lavel of the fire wall, usually med. or minimun will work
