Samba Help Needed
Hello,
I am new to Fedora Core 4. I was a Redhat 9 user for the longest, until I found out that it was not supported anymore. I finally got my samba server working the way I wanted with Redhat 9. Now that i'm using Fedora, i'm running into a little problem with samba. I setup samba the same way I did with redhat 9. When I try to access my samba share, this is what I get: "The filename "xxxx" indicates that this file is of type "x-directory/smb-share". The contents of the file indicate that the file is of type "desktop configuration file". If you open this file, the file might present a security risk to your system. Do not open the file unless you created the file yourself, or received the file from a trusted source. To open the file, rename the file to the correct extension for "desktop configuration file", then open the file normally. Alternatively, use the Open With menu to choose a specific application for the file." What does this mean? How can I get past this? |
Are you trying to access samba for a windooze client or linux?

Both! I get that message when I click on the icon in linux. I can see my linux share on my windows box. When I click on the share, I get a login prompt. I put my user name and password in and I get to the share folder. When I click on the share icon I get the message:
\\xxxxx\usrnameis not accessible. You may not have permission to use this network resource. Contack system administration to find out if you have permission. The network path is not found. I get 2 messages form both boxes. |
What would be helpful if you posted the contents of your smb.cof file. also if the sever is PDC did you use the root account to join the domain.
