Samba Help Needed

Hello,

I am new to Fedora Core 4. I was a Redhat 9 user for the longest, until I found out that it was not supported anymore. I finally got my samba server working the way I wanted with Redhat 9. Now that i'm using Fedora, i'm running into a little problem with samba. I setup samba the same way I did with redhat 9. When I try to access my samba share, this is what I get:

"The filename "xxxx" indicates that this file is of type "x-directory/smb-share". The contents of the file indicate that the file is of type "desktop configuration file". If you open this file, the file might present a security risk to your system.

Do not open the file unless you created the file yourself, or received the file from a trusted source. To open the file, rename the file to the correct extension for "desktop configuration file", then open the file normally. Alternatively, use the Open With menu to choose a specific application for the file."

What does this mean? How can I get past this?

Are you trying to access samba for a windooze client or linux?

Both! I get that message when I click on the icon in linux. I can see my linux share on my windows box. When I click on the share, I get a login prompt. I put my user name and password in and I get to the share folder. When I click on the share icon I get the message:

\\xxxxx\usrnameis not accessible. You may not have permission to use this network resource. Contack system administration to find out if you have permission.

The network path is not found.

I get 2 messages form both boxes.

What would be helpful if you posted the contents of your smb.cof file. also if the sever is PDC did you use the root account to join the domain.

I am running into the same problem in KDE 3.1. When I double click on a Windows computer in my network I get the message troycus posted. What extension should I use?
