Samba: fails with static ip. No prob dynamic
Hello fellow users
Whenever I set my Ubuntu install (E.E.) to use a static ip (so my router's port forwarding works) I can no browse my shared folders on the network. Even after restarting the smb service. I can still ping the ip on the network (from a win machine) but pinging the hostname fails when the ip is static Any tips? many thanks. |
What IP were you allocated by dhcp when the connection was working?
What have you chosen for your static IP? What is the IP of the win machine? You may have a problem with your netmask. |
Thanx! The netmask was indeed the problem. Ubuntu auto completes the netmask info after entering the ip and I didn't think twice about it.
Whats most puzzling tho... is how from such little info you gathered the net mask was the cause... :S |
