Samba domain master

After I installed a fresh distro of debian woody 2.4 kernal I was reconfiguring things and I noticed that initially before I made samba the local master and domain master browser that my bros. win xp home edition pc was listed as the master browser for the other xp home machine and the samba machine, I found this out because I ran

smbclient -L //netbios_name

for each computer. After I set up samba to be master browser, when I again ran

smbclient -L //netbios_name

on each computer Only the samba box listed the master browser (itself) the two xp boxes had nothing as if they didn't recognize any master browser. This hasn't changed since I set up samba, it's bee some days now. It also appears as if neither xp box recognizes the other servers on the network, because the server list is blank as well. it doesn't seem to have any effect on the network neighborhood I can browse all machine shares perfectly fine, and I can also access them all from the samba box. One thing did occur to me as well. I have had problems with accessing machines that log onto my vpn, as well as accesing my machines when logged on at a vpn machine. I was wondering if perhaps this samba issue may have a correleation to my vpn issue...any reccomendations, help, or just telling my why this is happening even if you have no solutionm is appreciated nd I thankyou immensly in advance.

I don't have an answer but check out browsing.txt

On SuSE 8.1 this is located at:
/usr/share/doc/packages/samba/textdocs/browsing.txt
