SAMBA - cannot connect to local network: "Timeout on Server 'x'"

Hi

I'm trying to share a folder between all the computers in my house. 2 machines are using kubuntu, one is using Mac.

I installed Samba server in my Kubuntu desktop. Now I when I try to connect to the network from my Kubuntu laptop I can see the network, when I click in it to open a message appears: "Timeout on Server 'X'" Where 'x' is the name of the server.

Any idea what's going on?

Thanks

Do you have any firewalls running and have you opened the ports for Samba?

No firewalls. I didn't open the ports. Do I have to? How do I do that in my linux machine?

I just sounded like firewall would be blocking the access. Check that and also check samba log files under /var/log/smdb.*

Hopefully the log files tell something useful about the situation.
