Samba can't validate the users

Hi, everyone,

I'm a newbie for samba. I got a error message from my samba log file everyday. It is like:

Connections Denied:
lib/util_sock.c:get_socket_addr(1012) getpeername failed. Error was Transport endpoint is not connected (0.0.0.0) : 383 Time(s)

**Unmatched Entries**
lib/access.c:check_access(333) : 383 Time(s)
lib/util_sock.c:get_socket_addr(1012) getpeername failed. Error was Transport endpoint is not connected : 385 Time(s)
rpc_client/cli_netlogon.c:cli_net_sam_logon_internal(406) cli_net_sam_logon_internal: NT_STATUS_INVALID_WORKSTATION : 41 Time(s)
rpc_client/cli_netlogon.c:cli_net_sam_logon_internal(406) cli_net_sam_logon_internal: NT_STATUS_WRONG_PASSWORD : 3 Time(s)
rpc_client/cli_trust.c:change_trust_account_password(232) 2003/12/15 08:45:02 : change_trust_account_password: Changed password for domain DC1. : 1 Time(s)
smbd/password.c:domain_client_validate(1619) domain_client_validate: unable to validate password for user coun1c1 in domain DC1 to Domain controller ns1. Error was NT_STATUS_INVALID_WORKSTATION. : 4 Time(s)
.
.
.

Can you tell me what's wrong with my samba? Thank you very much.

jen209110,

I was having this very same problem last weekend (01/03/04).

After learning much more than I ever wanted about NetBIOS name resolution, it became clear that the Samba server was trying to contact an external DNS. While Samba was waiting for that query to timeout, the negotiation between Samba and the client timed out. Hence, I couldn't get any client to log on.

I finally worked around this my adjusting my smb.conf file slightly. I noticed I had a line similar to: HOSTS ALLOW 127.0 10.0.0 localhost

Somehow, maybe by using the "testparm" utility, I realized that the Samba server was trying to use the external DNS to resolve the localhost name. I removed "localhost" from the string above and, voila!, it worked.

It probably worked because Samba gave up on name resolution via a DNS faster and kicked into broadcast mode. I don't really care. It worked.

This may not be a specific solution for you, but maybe this will help? (if it isn't too late...)

Sean
