hi all,
i am new to Linux, and need some help getting our server (Windows 2000 server) to authenticate users. The clients are all on windows 2000 professional, but i have one redhat 9.0 client which im trying to get to work.

I have samba 3 installed, and have successfully managed to put the machine on the nt domain via:

1. I ammended the necessary details in the smb.conf file
3. then in terminal:
net join -S DOMPDC -UAdministrator%password

It outputted that it had joined the domain.

4. I restarted the smb daemon

I then tried logging in with several different accounts, but it would not let me in.
I think it has something to do with active directory, but not sure.
Do I need to do something with kerberos and ldap?i dont understand what the kerberos realm and kerberos server details i need to enter are.

Please can someone help???!!!

A couple of things to check.:
1. If you did succeed in joining the domain, you linux box's hostname will be listed in the AD Computers & Users utility.
2. I could be wrong, but I have always joind a my linux boxen using the smbpasswd command

I tried several different methods are posting that message. I managed to get an article on it:

This is pretty much the same setup. with these instructions I managed to get the linux machine to see the active diretcory, it was listed in there. Also I can get a list of users and groups in the active directory.

The command used to join the active directory was:
net ads join -U Administartor%Passwords


The only thing I cant do now is authenticate users. So im definately close.....im a total newbee to Linux..........do i have to create any special accounts on the windows server and on the linux box????
