samba as ADS

Friends.

We decided to eliminate Windows 2000 server in our office.
I heard samba can act as ADS.
But some tell it cant.

Please clear me on this.

we still use windows clients for the app called autocad.

So, if samba can act as ads, i kill the 2000 server.
help me to do it.

regards,
T.Shrinivasan.

Samba can act as an NT4 PDC or join to a Active Directory domain, but it cannot be a Windows2000 Domain Controller. The directive security = ads is used when a linux host joins to a 2000/2003 and use Kerberos authentiation. In certain cases they have gotten it to participate in site trusts, but that takes a lot of work.

You can back-end the NT4 PDC to OpenLDAP and run an LDAP authentication using the NT4 style domains, but that is as far as it goes currently.

I have a how-to on my website http://www.opensourcehowto.org for setting up samba as a primary domain controller (PDC)

OpenLDAP LAM Samba as PDC
http://www.opensourcehowto.org/how-t...ba-as-pdc.html

and if you feeling a little bit more adventurous later on you could try getting into the policies with samba

Samba Primary Domain Controller with Group Policies
