Here is another quick question.

How does one disable roaming profiles?
What I want to do is have the user log into the domain, but I want them to use their local profile, and not a roaming profile.

Any ideas on the best way to set this up?

Thanks.

That should do it !

Hey again !

That should do it...it almost look as i did it except for me I did not write the full path to adduser but that is nothing to bather about.

About the domain thing I did the change from users to domain and then it worked for me to add my other machines to the domain...XP (urk).

Here is a little document that I wrote so I would remember everthing in the future.

Here you can find the document...Samba.doc .

Have a nice Linux day.

NOT Roaming profile !

Hi again !

The way I do it at home is on laptop's I change to local profile so if you are not connected to the network you should be able to log on to your laptop anyway...these changes are all done in the local machine.
But if you like to exclude a couple och users in your domain not to get a roaming profile I don't know how to do that but if you read the long and fine Samba.doc there is probley a some settings to exclude on user.

Best luck to you !

How to keep it local

There is a rather simple method to control a lot of Windows XP (Prof) Settings when it comes to roaming
Go to Start->Run and type "gpedit.msc"
Under LOcal Computer poöicy->Computer configuration->Administratitive templates->System->User profiles you can change a lot of these settings including "Prevent roaming profiles chamges to propagate to the server"

Good luck

Sorry for digging this thread.

May I ask those who had their roaming profiles working, what are some of the files and folders that are stored in your samba server?

I guess that you are interested in the roaming specific files, right?
You can modify the list via the grpedit.
Basically, Windows copies the content of the folder
C:\Documents and Settings\user_foobar back an forrth
In particular in my profiles folder on the SAMBA-Server these files and directories are stored:
drwx------ 18 sgromer users 544 2004-08-04 19:03 Application Data
drwx------ 2 sgromer users 1736 2004-08-11 18:38 Cookies

Was this of any help?
