Make sure the printer is shared on the XP box. then you need to setup the printer as a share in SAMBA. the easiest way to do that is to install Webmin on your linux box and configure it from there. You can get it at:

http://www.webmin.com

You need to go into webmin and create a share for the printer. This will allow the linux box to use the SAMBA shared printer over the network.

Then on your linux box, setup a new printer and point it to the SAMBA share you just created.

You don't need to modify the smb.conf file!

I take is that this box is dual booting XP and linux right? The other box had the printer connected to it. You don't need to modify the smb.conf file! You do not even need sambe in this situation, but you need the smbclient and smb-common packages installed on the RH box.

Like Docv said, "Make sure the printer is shared on the XP box." You should also create a NON ADMINISTRATIVE account on the XP box with the printer on it, which will be used to five the linux box the ability to print to it. You will need to set the security on the printer such that the account has the print right to the printer.

Next, from your linux box, add a new printer with the "redhat-config-printer" command or any other tool. Make sure you specify the printer as a smb or samba printer. The wizard will prompt you for the info about host, share, user, password, etc. Fill in the appropriate info and print a test page. It may take some time to print, but if the job is stuck in the print queue, you will need to do some troubleshooting.

Cheers
