Samba and Windows Server 2003 SP1

Hi all,

I have several Fedora Core 3 machines running Samba as member servers against a Windows 2K3 PDC using AD authentication. All has been well for some time until Windows SP1 came along and now none of the Fedora boxes will authenticate.

I get "pdb_init_sam failed" messages in the logs and the user is prompted for a username/pwd which always fails.

I tried using the redhat upgrade agent and that has taken Samba up to 3.0.10, but I can see that Samba is currently at 3.0.14

So, two questions.......

1 Am I right in thinking that 3.0.14 will solve this for me

2 If so, how do I go about upgrading? I've tried running the rpm files, but so much else is dependent on them, that it fails. Do I have to go to FC4?

And, of course, the usual final question......

Am I missing something entirely?!!!

Many thanks

Just for the record, I forced the rpm upgrade to 2.0.14a and it works just fine.

I am having the same problem. All worked correctly before W2K3 SP1 was installed. I have even started from scratch on a new server with FC4 and had no luck. Just for the record, FC4 comes with SAMBA 3.0.14a-2. I have setup may of these servers using ADS security and all was great till SP1. I am hoping someone will find the bug and post it hear shortly. I am dead in the water with unhappy users... Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thank again Microsoft!

samba: authenticaton fail when authenticating off of Windows 2003 SP1 AD

Hey all,
I've run into this problem but I have a more interesting situation. There are 2 samba file servers (S1 & S2) in my AD domain. Samba was the same for S1 and S2 at samba-3.0.9-1.3E.3. Everything worked, right, and then I applied SP1. S1 broke, but S2 didn't. I upgraded S1 to the latest samba, still not working. At this stage, S1 is samba-3.0.20rc2-1 and S2 is samba-3.0.9-1.3E.3. While logged into the AD, when users are mapping samba shares, they authenticate automatically off of one of the 3 W2K3 DCs. Well, after SP1 was installed on the authentication server, my users are not able to authenticate anymore when attempting to map the samba share on S1, but they are able to authenticate when attempting to map the share on S2. It gets more interesting. If I change S1 back to samba-3.0.9-1.3E.3, it still doesn't work.

Thanks indeed M$.

I'm going through the smb.conf file and checking it trice, but I have no clue what can cause this issue. I'm going to assign the security=server on both machines because right now S1 is set to ADS, but S2 is set to server.

Any other ideas fellas?
